Facebook Hoax of the week: It happened to a friend of a friend!

Everyday there seems to be a new Facebook hoax out there.  There are so many that I don’t even know where to start.  In an effort to keep you informed and without egg on your face, we’re going to start a Facebook Hoax of the week post.

This week let’s talk about the copy and paste into your status hoax. There are a number of them out there.

The ever popular…

I want to stay PRIVATELY connected with you. However, with the recent changes in FB, the “public” can now see activities on ANY wall. This happens when our friend hits “like” or “comment” ~ automatically, their friends would see our posts too. Unfortunately, we can not change this setting by ourselves because Facebook has configured it this way. PLEASE place your mouse over my name above (DO NOT CLICK), a window will appear, now move the mouse on “FRIENDS” (also without clicking), then down to “Settings”, click here and a list will appear. REMOVE the CHECK on “LIFE EVENTS” “STATUS UPDATES” “PHOTOS” and “COMMENTS & LIKES”. By doing this, my activity among my friends and family will no longer become public.

This isn’t going to stop anyone’s likes or comments from showing up in their own newsfeed like it says it will.  It will only stop the person who has hovered over your name from seeing the likes and comments you have made.  And if you’re in the social media business, isn’t this kind of working against you?

Only you can control what people see and don’t see on your page.  Check your privacy settings.

facebook hoax

While it is a possibility and people have “stolen” id’s on Facebook, there seems to be a lot of you out there with the exact status update and warning. Did you REALLY have someone try to friend you as a friend whom you’re already friends with?

I personally have not had this happen to me.  If you do have it happen to you, simply check with the person you’re already friends with and then report the account.  There, all done.
